Good news for light vans: Demand for LCVs soars as August sees strongest growth since 2013

Positive news continues in the light commercial market as competitive deals see continued demand for Light Commercial Vehicles. In what is usually a low volume month for sales, August saw the the eighth consecutive month of growth for LCV registrations, with a hugely encouraging 41% increase in sales.

As many as 23,120 light vehicles were put on the road in August, seeing a rise in popularity of 33.1% for pickups, small, medium and large van sectors, popular for online deliveries, while larger 2.5-3.5t vans saw a whopping 46.8% rise.

Mercedes’ new Sprinter van led the way, registering 3,104 units, followed by Ford’s Transit-Custom and large Transit van and the Volkswagen Transporter. Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association, said of the SMMT’s light commercial vehicle registration figures: “All sectors are showing encouraging signs of stability, especially considering the challenges being faced by the industry, and dealers are optimistic that the LCV market will continue to thrive in Q4 of 2019.”
